In the religion of Islam, the family is of special importance as the center of education and the cornerstone of achieving a dynamic society, and therefore, Islam has established rights and duties for couples to preserve and continue it. In between, in Imamieh jurisprudence providing the livelihood of the wife is the responsibility of the man, and providing the means of welfare and comfort for the wife, which is referred to in Islam as the development of the wife, is considered as a recommended (Mostahab) matter. Take into consideration of this importance, the present study examines the examples, criteria, and scope of development on wife by investigation of the verses of Holy Qur'an, narrations, and the opinions of ancient and recent jurists of development on wife. It should be mentioned that this research is a fundamental-applied type using a descriptive-analytical method. The findings of this study showed that in Imamieh jurisprudence, the development on wife is an independent issue from the recommended alimony (developmental alimony), and it lies between stinginess (Taqtir/Eqtar) and extravagance (Esraf), which is called moderation (Qavam). In addition, the development on wife, unlike wife's alimony, lacks the condition of the wife's dignity and the limitations stated by some great jurists regarding examples of alimony.
